SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One person was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Monday in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Rapid Response Network.
San Francisco Rapid Response Network said that ICE agents were spotted in two different neighborhoods in San Francisco, the Excelsior and South of Market. The individual was detained in SoMa.
A video sent to KRON4 shows the scene in the SoMa neighborhood where the person was detained. Three agents with face coverings can be seen talking to the person, with bystanders intervening nearby.
An ICE San Francisco spokesperson identified the man detained as Milton Ramos-Rodriguez, 51, of El Salvador. Ramos-Rodriguez, according to ICE, is a "prior deported felon" with a conviction for voluntary manslaughter in California.
He has also been identified as having an alleged affiliation with the Sureños gang, ICE said.
“ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations remains committed to protecting public safety by locating and arresting criminal aliens who pose threats to our communities,” said ERO San Francisco acting Field Office Director Julio S. Hernandez. “This enforcement action reflects the dedicated work of our officers and law enforcement partners to uphold the law and prioritize the safety and security of the public.”
The incident happened in Supervisor Matt Dorsey's district. He released a statement saying he's outraged and it's unacceptable for armed federal agents to confront a man who repeatedly identified himself as a U.S. citizen.

Dorsey also pointed to President Donald Trump’s decision last year to call off a planned immigration enforcement surge after speaking with Mayor Daniel Lurie.
Lurie says he wants to reassure people of the city's commitment to its sanctuary policies.
"I want everyone to know our sheriffs, our SFPD, our district attorney. We are here to protect the immigrant community. Nothing has changed on that front. Every single day we are looking out for the community," he said.
Ramos-Rodriguez's immigration status is not clear at this time.

San Francisco Supervisor Bilal Mahood posted on social media, responding to the videos circulating about the incident, saying, "The recent videos and reports about ICE activity in SOMA are scary and unacceptable. This unlawful behavior by federal agents underscores the importance of looking out for one another and staying informed."
San Francisco Rapid Response Network said that the person who was detained is receiving legal assistance from the San Francisco Public Defender's Office.
