(KRON) -- The Kensington Police Department is investigating a possible hate crime after an elementary school was vandalized over the weekend. No suspects have yet been identified.
Police believe the incident at Kensington Hilltop Elementary, located at 90 Highland Blvd., occurred sometime between last Friday afternoon and early Monday morning.
“On Monday morning, October 19, school staff at Kensington Hilltop Elementary discovered that a racial slur had been written on an exterior wall on campus. Staff quickly covered it so students would not see it, and the school contacted Kensington Police,” said police. “Because of its racially offensive nature, we are investigating this incident as a possible hate crime.”
Investigators said they are actively working with school and district officials.
"Acts meant to target or intimidate members of our community based on race have no place in Kensington, and we take them seriously," police added.
Anyone who spotted unusual activity at or near the school during the timeframe of the incident — or has home or vehicle camera footage from the area — is asked to call police at (510) 525-7573. Please reference Case No. 2026-0230.
