(KRON) -- A 25-year-old San Mateo man who died after he crashed his motorcycle into a light pole was identified by police Tuesday as Cooper Alexander Lahoud.
Lahoud was riding on Franklin Parkway in San Mateo when he crashed on Monday evening. Officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:30 p.m.
"Officers found a single motorcyclist lying in the street with major injuries, a crashed motorcycle, and a severed city light pole. Unfortunately, the rider succumbed to his injuries," the San Mateo Police Department wrote.
Investigators said they determined that no other vehicles were involved, and the rider was wearing a helmet.
"A preliminary investigation and supporting evidence shows that speed was likely a contributing factor causing the motorcyclist to lose control of the motorcycle while riding eastbound on Franklin Parkway causing him to leave the roadway and collide with the light pole," the police department wrote. "Our condolences go out to his family and friends."
